Subject :
5 GHz, Wi-Fi with compression and 60Ghz

Description :
What is the difference between wireless 5 GHz, Wi-Fi with compression and 60Ghz AV solutions?

Solution :
5GHz Uncompressed:
Operates on the 5GHz band "based on WHDI™( Wireless Home Digital Interface) technology" designed to provide a high-quality, uncompressed wireless link which supports delivery of equivalent video data rates of up to 3Gbps (including uncompressed 1080p) in a 40MHz, and conforms to CE/FCC regulations. Range is beyond 30 meters, through walls, and latency is less than one millisecond (<1ms). It provides a consistently high picture quality with low latency (<1ms) and low power consumption.

Wi-Fi with Compression:
Operates on Wi-Fi within the 5 GHz (802.11n) band to transmit video between data rates of 400 to 600Mbps. Wi-Fi must therefore rely on video compression codecs such as H.264, MJPEG, etc. t o compress and decompress A/V signals to fit High Definition video (1080p) through its limited bandwidth.

Range is 30m (100ft), through walls, latency is less than thirty milliseconds (<30ms).
Video compression technologies may inadvertently degrade video or image quality and introduce greater latency (<30ms). Compression technology utilizes more power which generates additional heat which, in turn, may cause video pixilation and / or loss of signal.

60 GHz:
Operates in 60 GHz band. The range for products is in-room, point-to-point, at up to 10 meters (30ft). This provides up to 4 Gbps of bandwidth, more than enough to transmit uncompressed 1080p Full HD video - providing wired-equivalent image quality and latency.
